How I Do HIIT

The Scoop

I am so in the zone right now as far as trying to improve my fitness. I am in an online fitness program that I have done a couple of times and they invited me to join the VIP Community and I thought this was the perfect time to get back to a more formal fitness routine. Direction is helpful right now when I have little due to the stay at home life.

There’s a lot going on with this program and so its keeps me busy learning and trying new things. I am carb cycling, more dedicated to my intermittent fasting, watching macros more than calories although I am watching them too and relying heavily on HIIT to build muscle and cardiovascular fitness.

My deal is that I turn 60 this year and I am battling weight around my waist, the most unhealthy place to put on weight. I know it has a lot to do with hormones and I agree but I also know its a game changer. What used to work for me is not working now.

Ever since I quit running the weight starting coming on and really likes where it landed. Ha ha. But I don’t, so, like my normal self I don’t quit until I figure it out. I have hip bursitis from a running injury (an ongoing saga) and am using physical therapy to fix it but meanwhile I have to find exercise I like that works for me. Everyone has different things that work for them.

I love cardio but I now do weight training too. I combine the two in fun HIIT workouts.

Current Routine

I do something different each day. Some days I take a two mile walk and then follow with an HIIT video. Some days I will do just strength training. I try not to do the same thing on consecutive days. I carb cycle on Monday and Tuesday and then stick to my regular macros the rest of the week. Here is a beginners guide to Carb Cycling. I try to do HIIT workouts on Carb Cycling days. Here is a guide to counting macros. I do really good for about three or four days then I will relax a day if I feel like it’s too much. It’s only been a few weeks but so far I am seeing improvement in weight and muscle tone.

I have several YouTube videos I use to guide me though HIIT workouts. I can put them on my big screen TV and they are so fun and truly a good workout. They are mostly around ten minutes long and focus on upper body or lower body. I can do one of them or two if I feel strong. They have low impact, full body and just tons of options. Here are some of my regulars. They are all by Mr and Mrs Muscle on YouTube. Here is an article on HIIT and ageing. Studies are continually showing major benefits of HIIT as we age.

My favorite video for full body strength training is “30 Minute Strength Training Fat Blaster” by Joanna Soh.

Here is my 14-year-old baby. He is very sick and likes to be with me every minute of the day and I am happy to have this little shadow.

So let me know what you are doing to stay fit! Do you do HIIT and if so how? I would love to hear about it.

Thanks for stopping by!

Peace!
