Arizona Skin Care

The Scoop

It is really heating up here in Arizona so more skin is going to be out in the open soon. I am using all my favorite lotions and potions to support and enhance my skin. At no other point in my life have I ever been more protective of my skin as now.

I grew up in the Midwest sun. I rode horses, went camping, swimming at the lake and played outside all day growing up. Sun screen wasn’t even a thought in anyone’s mind back then. I was lucky that I never burned because common since told me when I got hot to go inside or at least in the shade.

As a young adult, being tan was the style. I got very dark in the summers and even went to tanning beds now and then. Still sunscreen other than a low SPF on my face was not in my thought processes.

Things went along smoothly until my fifties when I started seeing the effects of years in the sun. I started being more careful and I started using skin care products regularly for the first time in my life.

When I turned 60 is when I really started wishing things had been different. Now I feel like I must use makeup to cover some of the signs of aging. I don’t mind the wrinkles as much and the age spots and the skin cancer I had last winter. It was a common skin cancer and I was lucky enough to get it removed without too much stress but it was a big wake up call. And it was directly related to sun damage.

The last few years, I have treated my skin like rice paper. Gently and lovingly. Like my heart or other organs, it has carried me for 61 years and I owe it to myself to treat it better.

I drink lots of water and have found some affordable products that work better than any of the more expensive things I have tried. I get plenty of sleep and eat well, all for my skin as well as my general health.

My Look

My top and bag are last year from Amazon. My shorts are from Costco, in stores now. My Marc Fisher sandals are old but very much favorites!

I have makeup on but it is a no makeup look for the most part. Usually what I do if I wear makeup at all.

My hair has been an issue since I got it cut a month ago. Not a good cut for me. I had to go to someone new for the first time in 15 years and had no idea where to go so just picked someone. She just didn’t understand my hair and it goes all over the place. I am just starting to get it to look ok occasionally. But it grows fast and with a little length I think I can make it work. I will go back to my stylist in Idaho this summer. I can’t wait to see her.

Some Things I Love

I’ve used Olay products more than any other brands over the years. When I started noticing real damage, I tried so many things. I tried Retin A, Botox, Expensive skin care products, less expensive skin care products, etc. None of those things seemed to make much difference. I don’t use any of them now and haven’t for a long time.

Now I use this trio of Olay products (not sponsored by Olay) and I get better results than ever before. And it feels good to me. My skin isn’t on fire or numb, just soft and happy.

I use the Olay products morning and night. Each day I use sunscreen on my face and on any body parts that might see the sun. At night I use a body lotion that I have used for a couple of years now and it changed the skin on my legs and body drastically for the better.

My legs have stretch marks from pregnancy, a few veins are starting to peek through and they did have a leathery feel to them from so much sun. The lotion I use took that texture away and now my skin is soft as ever.

My face has wrinkles (not such a bad thing really) but the brown spots really bother me. I have blue in my bottom lip called a Blue Lake. You see it often in older people. Not harmful but it bothers me. The Olay products seem to really improve the redness in my face and give it a more youthful texture.

For these pictures I used leg makeup. It is so easy to use, dries in 60 seconds is water proof and does not rub off on your clothes or furniture. It is very light weight but gives your skin a velvety look and feel. With that on top of my lotion I feel my legs are holding up pretty good. Here where it is so hot covering them all summer just isn’t going to work for me.

My Face Routine

I cleanse with a cloth and warm water. If I need a little soap, I use CeraVe face wash. Then at night I use all three of the Olay products pictured and, in the morning, I use the red and yellow bottles. Also, I use sunscreen every day. I always carry several with me. Different SPF levels, some tinted some not, I even have a mineral powder one for when I am out and about and need to add over my makeup after a couple of hours. But rarely am in the direct sun for more and a few minutes (like 5) ha-ha. I do go out early in the day for runs or walk when the UV Rays are zero to low. Once they hit moderate I stay out of the sun.

I shave my face about once every two weeks. It feels so good when I do it and I think it helps exfoliate my skin.

Things I use on my face linked. I interchange through the sun screens depending on what I need or want to use that day. But I use them all and love them.

My Body Routine

Showers with little or no soaps. If I need a little soap I just use a mild bar soap. Otherwise just warm water. Then lotion right before I get into bed. In the morning I use a self-tanner on some days, or body makeup or I found this sunscreen with self-tanner in it. The tan builds up as you use it daily and it has an SPF of 45. It is very lovely! I would say a new favorite.

Things I use on my body linked. I have used most of them for at least a year and love them all.

Peace!
