Around My House

The Scoop

This is a long post so buckle up or jump ship! Ha ha! I thought it would be fun to share some of the things I have been doing around the house and out and about. I have been wrapped up in making this place cozy. I think we will be spending more time here than in Arizona in the future. I like to spend a little bit of time here during seasonal changes.

I love to furnish and decorate with some new, some thrifted, consigned or from a yard sale. We have moved so much over the years and I am tired of buying new. Most new stuff is such lower quality with prices that are simply not worth it. And, I love the character is older used things.

I really enjoy searching for interesting things and giving them new life and thinking about the person who enjoyed them before. I am sharing some new, some old and some insights to what I have been up to the last couple of months.

Above is my new bed coverings. I got them at Nordstrom Rack online. I love the colors and feel they were worth the reduced price but not the full price. The quality is not $250. My green velvet throw pillows were thrifted and like new. I painted the accent wall myself. The art was thrifted. My lamps are new from Target but the shades were found at a garage sale and also never used. We got the bedroom furniture last year from Costco.

This is my office. I painted two accent walls a dark navy blue. The decor and lamps were all thrifted including the side table and chair. The throw was new last year from Target. The art was also thrifted. The desk and bookshelves were some we already had.

The entry table below was brought at a estate sale and I will be replacing it when I find the right one. After having it a year I realized it wasn’t something I liked for that space. The art (beautiful paintings) and decor was all thrifted or from a garage sale, including the 1930s radio.

In my living room I have a drop leaf side table from an estate sale. And decor I already owned for the most part. The chairs were bought to get me by until I find what I want. There are two of them and will work better in guest rooms later. The throw is new from Target. I still love candles and you will find throughout my home, most were thrifted but never burned.

Below is all thrifted decor for my fireplace mantel.

Below is my livig room. I painted the 12 foot accent wall. The art was bought at a thrift shop years ago. The lamp is from a consignment shop and the the bowl was from a garage sald. The silk flowers we mine that I have had for years. Candles and holders, thrifted. The sofa, coffee table and sofa table are all new. The throw and throw pillous are new from Target. My rug is new and one of those machine washable ones. I think that it will be so nice to be able to wash it when needed. I go to the library every two weeks so I always have books I am reading laying around.

Below you will see giant brass scales (four feet tall) that I found at a thrift shop. This was perfect for a shelf above our entry and off the second story. The throw (dark blue) and pillow (Marigold) are new from Target.

Below is my vintage pedestal table found for $20 at a thrift shop and all it needed was a little cleaning and touching up to show case it’s vintage charm. I was wanting the exact kind of table for my breakfast nook. Some days later I found the perfect chairs at another thrift shop for $10 each! Score! I cleaned the chairs but still need to touch up a little with some stain.

The little blue cabinet was a yard sale find and will be used somewhere else at some point. But for now I wanted to put my vintage bone china made by a French designer from the 1920s. I was able to find an eight piece setting which included dinner plates, salad plates, fruit or dessert bowls, butter pat plates and tea cups and saucers.

The cafe curtains are new from Amazon and the faux lavender plants were thrifted. The cute hand painted olive dish was from a yard sale and the vintage creamer and sugar bowl was thrifted.

My pig bowl was new from a beautiful kitchen boutique when we lived in McCall. It cost me $70 but I just loved it so much, I made the investment (Ha ha)!

This is also a close up of the bone china made by Theodore Haviland. It has been so fun to research this china and the three generations of family that designed china beginning in the 1800s. I knew when I saw it in the thrift store it was special. If you hold it up to the light you can see through it.

My husband had to have a bigger hangar to fit our adventure van in with his plane. We are having fun setting it all up to be a place to plan and set out on little trips.

My front courtyard is in transistion. The decor is mostly thrifted and the furniture is new from Costco. The back patio has lots more work to do but we put up these beautiful privacy planters for this year.

And I can’t leave out my very best partners in all things crime related! Tucker and Taylor.

My stylist of gosh, 15 or more years talked me into letting my hair grow more and she added highlights and low lights for the summer. This is allowing more of my natural grey to come in. She added some long layers and cleaned up my bangs. Love it!

We have a taco place just down the street from our house that has amazing street tacos and drinks! Special occasions only but so fun for an evening when I don’t feel like cooking or driving a long ways to eat.

We took a trip to McCall where we used to live in the mountains to get our favorite gas station burgers.

Also down the street from where we live is a Stella’s Ice Cream shop and once in a while it is a perfect summer treat.

Below is the carpet we had installed to replace all the carpet in the house. That was two bedrooms and family room on second story and then our primary bedroom, my office and my husbands office space. The blue went on the stairs and his office. The white went everywhere else. I can’t believe how much it refreshed the whole house. But the old carpet was very old, installed when the house was built in the early 90s so it had done it’s time.

Thanks for stopping by!

Peace!
