Lemonade Making

A Forest At Peace

A Forest At Peace

The Scoop

We’ve been back home in the mountains for about six weeks now and I think the sun has been out about twice. I have been so busy and grateful for this life here but it is wearing me down a little. I am so effected by light and warmth and it has been cold, damp and cloudy for too long.

But I keep making lemonade. I get up and do the things I need to do and I pretend the sun is shinning and I keep remembering gratitude. That’s all I know to do.

For this shoot I put on my bright pink Hunter boots and headed out into the forest. It was wet from days of rain and lush from weeks of spring growth. It was a little eerie since I have seen so much wild life hanging out around here. I felt their presence. We’ve seen among other things, black bear, fox, and just last week these gorgeous Sand Hill Crane. They are migrating north and they stop right on our property for several weeks to rest. They sound a lot like really loud wild turkey. Listen here.

These crane are fascinating. When I first spotted them out our back windows I thought they were young deer. They are so big. They must be about 4 feet tall. They are majestic. And as I got closer taking pictures they took flight. I was amazed something so large could fly. I feel blessed to be in their presence.

This seems lame but we did have a couple of warm sunny days. It was in the 70s a couple of days so I went Morel mushroom huntings and we found these . . .

But then over night our highs dropped down into the 40s and I think the mushrooms wil be non existent now. Sad story but at least we got enough for some amazing omelets!

See there is always a silver lining if you look closely. Right?

My Look

I love wearing a denim jacket as a shirt more than any other way. It is so comfy and just the right amount of weight for cool days. I wore a pair of white skinny jeans with the jacket and my bright pink Hunter boots. Even though it was only about 40 degrees outside I was quite comfortable. I visited all my rocks where I have taken so many pictures over the years and walked in the forest silence. My idea of meditation. I remember as a little girl I always said I wanted to be a forest ranger when I grew up.

Oh how I love the forest.
