Slow Times In The Mountains
The Scoop
We had a very slow 4th of July weekend here in the mountains. It was just me, my husband and our two dogs making a special dinner and sitting on the deck contemplating the future.
Even though it was just us I wanted to celebrate the day just a little. So I put on my tee shirt, worked on a fabulous meal with lots of the traditional foods we eat on the 4th and dreamed of the days ahead while being grateful for the day.
We are mostly vegetarian these days because we think it is a more healthy diet but when a special occasion occurs we will eat some of our old favorite dishes. So we made barbecued ribs, coleslaw, cheesy potatoes and corn on the cob. For dessert which I was too full to eat we had strawberry shortcake. It was all so good but really I prefer a little lighter foods these days.
Slow Fashion
I have been watching a YouTuber (Alyssa Beltempo) I recently found who is all about slow fashion. Oh my gosh she is so chic and confident and shares how to use what you have in your closet and how to use slow fashion more to curate your personal style. I am really motivated to incorporate more slow fashion into my lifestyle. You all know I have shopped thrift shops and consignment shops for years looking for treasures and I usually go for basics or pieces that are very unique that I will wear for years. I have many many wonderful finds.
In this look my example of slow fashion is my straw bag. I got this at local thrift shop several years ago. It is very well made and in perfect condition and I use it every summer. I love this bag. This is one of the types of things I look for in thrift shops. I will try to share slow fashion elements in my posts from now on just to give you an idea of how I am incorporating it into my closet.
I am not going into stores yet, its still not safe. Our cases continue to rise in Idaho and are even hitting record breaking numbers. So we stay home, order groceries for curb side pick up and if we have to go into the post office we wear masks. We are able to exercise outdoors in our rural mountain area so we are grateful for that. So since I don’t go into stores I am dipping my toes into the online thrift store called Thred Up. Has anyone else used it? Let us know what you think of it if you have tried them out.
My Look
I’m wearing a piece of fast fashion here too, a tee shirt from Amazon. I try not to shop them much but once in a while I will find something that I like. I always feel guilty though. But I am making an effort to cut way back on fast fashion. I’m also wearing white jeans, a long cardigan and wedge sandals, all oldies but goodies that I wear a lot. I knotted my tee to give a little shape to my look since my jeans are a baggy style. My cardigan is very light weight which is perfect for our weather which is 40s in the mornings and 70s in the afternoon.
Thanks for stopping by!
Peace!
